HR and Employment Law 3

RML members receive practical, pragmatic HR and employment law advice when it is needed, together with access to numerous employment documents.

We understand that employment policies and procedures should assist your business and not add burdens. By ensuring your business has the necessary policies in place you clarify both employee and employer responsibilities in different circumstances.

RML believes that it is important you understand why certain policies are beneficial to your business and we are on hand to advise you on the content of a process or to assist in the implementation of a procedure. If you are unsure of the content of a policy then it has little value to your business.

However, even with copious policies and procedures, sometimes employment law problems do arise. If you receive Employment Tribunal papers RML lawyers are on hand to provide reassuring guidance and assistance at these difficult times.

Trading Standards 1

Trading Standards enforce legislation designed to protect the consumer from trading malpractices. This can assist the majority of reputable companies by ensuring fair trading methods for everyone.

However, it also means that if you are unsure of your legal requirements in this area you may be committing offences which could end in prosecution.

Prosecutions involving well established and well known businesses are always ‘good stories’ for the local press, this may result in the company good name and reputation being damaged. Even if you are proved innocent the damage to your company reputation may have already been done.

Consumer Problems 1

Business Issues 1

RML is often asked to provide an opinion on numerous matters. We may be asked to provide an opinion on a legal problem, however on occasions we are simply asked for an independent point of view. Senior managers, owners and directors appreciate that they can call and ‘bounce an idea off’ someone who will give an honest and yet none political opinion.

We are frequently asked to recover bad debts, and as the industry realigns in the face of difficult trading times RML is often recovering bad debts for its members. This is service is included within our subscription, there is no additional charge.

We are frequently instructed to recover unpaid excess and VAT payments for members within the body repair industry.

We also read and provide advice on contracts with service providers, telephones computers etc. We can provide advice as to how to conclude contracts as efficiently as possible with suppliers e.g. cleaning companies.

If required we can also assess our member’s exposure to potential legal issues, such as trading standards, corporate manslaughter even employment litigation.
