Time off for Training

The government has been consulting on a new right for employees with 26 weeks service to request training. As with flexible working employers will have to consider requests and only refuse for specific business reasons. Implementation in 2010 is planned.

Agency Workers

The EU temporary agency workers directive gives agency workers the right to equality with permanent employment in basic employment conditions such as pay, holiday and working hours. December 2011 is the expected implementation deadline. There will be a 12 week qualifying period in the UK.

Parental Rights

The government is planning to increase paternity leave. This change is sceheduled for April 2011. Fathers will be able to take up to 6 months paternity leave (3 of which would be unpaid) if the mother returns to work after 6 months.
